Final figures from the completion of the Local Authority Delivery (LAD) and Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) programmes have placed Severn Wye as one of the most successful delivery agents in the West Midlands and South West.

Our work in Herefordshire totalled 30% of HUG delivery in the entire West Midlands. In Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire, we delivered the most successful HUG programmes in the South West, managing 35% of the regional delivery.

In total, we have delivered 470 home retrofits through LAD3 and HUG 1 and 2.

Commenting on the team’s success, Director of Energy Services Allison Cawley said:

“All credit to our team of assessors and retrofit co-ordinators who take such pride in their work, carrying out energy efficiency audits of the highest calibre and taking the time to talk through their findings with each household they survey. This means that our recommendations are based on a thorough understanding of the issues and opportunities, our advice is impartial, and residents can benefit from practical advice and an action plan to improve their home and living standards.

We provide retrofit co-ordination services to ensure all the conditions of the grant funding are met, and work closely with funders and installers to ensure the right installations are made in each home.”

One of the residents to benefit from HUG funding is Angela, who describes the difference new energy measures have made to staying warm at home and reducing the cost of energy bills.

Over the last three years, Severn Wye has managed some £14 million in capital budgets on behalf of funders, across all property types and varying demographics. Typically, Severn Wye assesses a customer’s eligibility for funding and manages their retrofit journey. As well as providing expertise at the planning stage, the energy services team will oversee the installation of energy-efficiency and low-carbon technologies, visit site regularly, and evaluate the performance of new measures.

Partnership working with funders is at the heart of a successful retrofit programme, a view that Maria Hickman, Housing Renewal Manager Gloucestershire County Council, shares:

“We are proud that Gloucestershire has one of England’s top-performing HUG programmes, retrofitting more homes than almost any other county in the scheme. Our partnership with Severn Wye is at the heart of this success. Their professionalism, efficiency and care for the households we are working with is nothing short of exemplary.”
