Current Projects WH:LG Gloucestershire (2025-  ) 

We are the lead delivery partner for the Gloucestershire/South Gloucestershire  consortium. Our team markets the scheme, screen the clients and supports those who qualify through the application process.

Our in-house Retrofit Coordination team then take over, providing an independent process and identifying the most suitable installer from our framework.

Our team then works closely with our trusted installers to deliver the best possible package of retrofit measures to the client, and wrap-around care and support at the end, all delivered to PAS2035/2030:2023.  

Green Homes Wales (2024-present).

We are a framework provider of retrofit coordination for the Development Bank Wales. We provide retrofit coordination for home owners taking out loans for energy efficiency home improvements. To date we have carried out retrofit assessments and provided plans for 21 properties. 

Past projects

First Time Central Heating Scheme (2010s); Warm Homes Fund (2017-2021); LAD 1 (2019-21),1a(2020-21), 2 (2021-2) and 3 (2022-3), HUG 1 (2022-3) and 2. 

These projects focused on delivering energy efficiency grants to fuel poor or vulnerable households across Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire and occasionally Herefordshire. Our vast experience aiding councils in the obtaining and delivery of local grants has covered a range of technologies, from installing first time central heating and new gas boilers, through heat pumps, wall installation of all types and Solar PV. 

Our most recent HUG 2 working with Gloucestershire Councils and South Gloucestershire closed in April 2025 helped over 300 households over two years to access up to £25k of funding (property dependent). We close the scheme having met our original target and having been one of the top performing areas in the country 

LAD 3 and HUG1 (Sustainable Warmth Competition) were delivered across Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire as well as delivering the customer journey element in Herefordshire. We worked with over 150 homes linking them with trusted installers to deliver high quality retrofit to PAS 2035/2030:2019. This was recognised as an exemplary project by the former department for Business Energy and Industrial Stratergy (BEIS now DESNZ).     

Our early LAD schemes primarily focused on the under-served park homes across Gloucestershire, enabling 100 park homes on sites with the worst health outcomes to receive fully-funded external wall insulation. This fund also toped up the Warm Home Fund to help 10 households receive fully funded ASHP with a new central heating installation.  

The First Time Central Heating Scheme and Warm Homes Fund supported first time connections gas connections and off gas solutions. The schemes helped over 700 fuel poor and off gas households access cheaper lower carbon heating over 7 years. Some even receiving an ASHP or bulk LPG where connection to the gas network was not feasible. 

Social Housing Demonstrator Fund (2021-2022), Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund Wave 1 (2022-2024) Wave 2 (2023-2025)  

We have worked on all phases of the Social Housing Fund to date covering over 200 homes across the projects. The work has included external wall insulation, cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, ground source & air source heat pumps and solar PV. We work closely with landlords and installers to deliver the best possible outcome for the tenants.  

On the demonstrator fund we worked with two local authority housing providers. 

• Retrofitted two system build properties to a very high standard. One achieving an EPC better than the new builds.  
• Retrofitted 27 retirement flats with ground source heat pumps, cavity wall insulation, solar PV and batteries, resulting in some flats achieving a SAP score of over 100.

On Wave 1 we worked on 159 properties across two providers. The main focus was on system builds receiving external solid wall insulation and loft insulation top ups. A block of retirement flats replacing underfloor electric with ground source heat pumps and replacing failed cavity wall insulation. And a number of conventionally built properties receiving cavity wall insulation and loft insulation.  

On Wave 2 we worked across some 100 properties. The majority receiving external wall insulation and loft insulation, included a block of retirement bungalows. 

We have worked with a range of organizations including local authorities, the EU, Sports Governing Bodies, and the Church of England to deliver decarbonisation surveys to organisations.  

Wiltshire Business Fit for Net Zero (2024-2025)  Worked with Wiltshire Council as part of the Fit for Future programme, supporting 61 businesses: 25 received grant funding from pot of £340,000. A series of workshops were held to provide our ‘1-to-many’ support and advice.  290 tonnes of carbon saved annually with £140,000 potential cost savings.

Wiltshire Towns Decarbonisation (2024 – present) Targeting 100 small and micro businesses in designated high street zones across 22 towns on behalf of Wiltshire County Council.  

Mid Wales Business Energy Efficiency Boost (2023-24) 

The MWBEEB project provided free energy audits to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Powys to help them identify opportunities to cut costs and reduce their carbon footprint. Businesses received tailored recommendations for energy efficiency improvements including renewable energy installations, and £200,000 grant funding was available towards installation costs.

Thirty-eight energy surveys were carried out and 12 SMEs went ahead with energy efficiency improvements across 15 sites. These improvements are projected to deliver combined annual savings of just under 210,000 kWh, amounting to nearly £50,000 and 53 tonnes of CO2 saved.

MWBEEB was funded by the Shared Prosperity Fund via Powys County Council and Growing Mid Wales.

Boosting Energy Efficiency in Ceredigion’s Community Buildings’ (BEECCB) 2024

BEECCB aimed to boost regional investment in energy efficiency, making Ceredigion’s community buildings greener and more resilient to fluctuating energy prices while helping ensure the future of these vital community resources. From applications, twenty community facilities were selected for support. Each received a tailored energy assessment, which included recommendations of energy efficiency improvements and funding sources. Five facilities were then chosen for capital development, receiving essential repairs, energy efficiency upgrades and support and training from Severn Wye energy specialists to a maximum of £50,000. 

An independent evaluator assessed the impact of the interventions in terms of cost and carbon savings, behavioural changes, and broader benefits. When complete the five community buildings are predicted to deliver combined annual savings of 38,280 kWh, £4,734 and 9.3 tonnes of CO2. 

The scheme was funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. 

Target 2020 & 2030 (2017-2023) was EU ERDF and enabled business’s to access 12 hours of free support and a grant towards any measures they installed off the back of this. Over 6 years we worked with 375 SMEs across Gloucestershire, Worcestershire …not sure-shire and delivered £1.5 million of investment and saved neatly 3,300 tonnes of CO2e.

Over the years we have worked with government, net-zero hubs and other bodies to pilot the projects of the future.

Target 2050 (2010) modelled one way of delivering pay-as-you-save schemes,  ahead of the creation of the Green Deal.

Future Fit Homes (2022-2023) in a consortium across the West Midlands and mid Wales delivered and tested a range of home energy surveys looking at which best suited the able-to-pay market in making positive steps towards retrofit.

With funding from South West Net Zero Hub we have taken that further with the delivery of 182 free surveys across Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire and our MEES project have looked at how to engage landlords to meet the challenges of meeting the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES).

Carbon capture through biochar is being put into action through our  innovative biochar project in the UK – see Severn Wye Biochar for full details. Our biochar plant in Warrington, Cheshire, has moved from feasibility studies and install to hot commissioning, and is now capable of full production:  able to generate up to 700 tonnes of biochar per year, locking away up to 2,500 tonnes of carbon per year, and creating a material with a range of uses from improving soil to water filtration. 

Our NHS retrofit programme identified some of the most vulnerable patients in the NHS across Gloucestershire and took a supportive approach delivering measures not available on other grant schemes and without the barriers imposed by qualifying. All homes needed was to be referred by a GP. Households received measures like solar PV and batteries  as well as fixing defects and installing double glazing. Twenty households have received tailored support and measures to suit their property and situation
