Grosmont forever
Local people in Grosmont are at the beginning of an exciting opportunity to tackle the energy issues they believe are important, as part of Energised Communities, a five-year programme funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.
Working together for a bright green future
Grosmont is a beautiful village in sparsely populated north-east Monmouthshire, with a medieval castle and Georgian town hall. Despite its attractions, howevever, the area ranks in the bottom two per cent for access to services in Wales.
Local people have been actively involved in our seven-year Rural Futures programme which concluded in June 2024. Through their energy and commitment, a new group Grosmont Futures was born to revitalise the town hall into a welcoming base for activities and services.
Building on their success, we’re back with a fresh brief to focus on the energy challenges that local people believe need to be tackled.
Peter Willis, Severn Wye’s Place Coordinator, is supporting the community to develop their ideas and put them into action, as part of the five-year Energised Communities programme which is running until 2029.

Events
At a first consultation in April residents explored topics from transport to access to fresh food and growing spaces, to waste and resource sharing.
Fifty-one people attended (9% of population) and their insightful views about local issues and possible solutions that would be good for both the village and the environment were pulled together by place coordinator Peter Willis, and explored further at a follow-up event in July.
These ideas will be appraised further at the event in October. For more information contact Peter: peterw@severnwye.org.uk
