Energising Llannerchymedd
Llannerchymedd residents are beginning an exciting journey to tackle the energy issues that are important to them, as part of Energised Communities, a five-year programme funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.
Shaping the future of Llannerchymedd
Llannerchymedd is close to the decommissioned Wylfa Nuclear Power Station. The collapse of the plans to develop Wylfa B power station has had a very negative impact on the local economy, but sparked residents’ interest in taking their own action.
During our seven-year Rural Futures programme, the group used funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to address the decline in village services. Their solutions included:
- Hwb Cymunedol LlanNi, a community venue created in a redesigned and renovated shop
- a locally designed website to promote local businesses, services and community evetns
- recruiting a part-time events coordinator to deliver a range of social and cultural activities and services.
Through those residents’ energy and commitment, a new group is being created to meet further challenges facing the area.
Adrian Roberts, Severn Wye’s place coordinator, is supporting the community to develop their ideas and put them into action, as part of the five-year Energised Communities programme which runs through to 2029.

What matters to you?
The first consultation event revealed information about projects, services and support that exists now.
Discussions ranged from transport and active travel to access to fresh food and growing spaces, to waste and resource sharing, and much more in-between.
The conversations were lively and thought-provoking. An online and paper questionnaire was then made available for more people to have a chance to respond to key questions that were asked at the event.
All responses were collated, and everyone’s insightful views were pulled together into an initial report about local issues and possible solutions that would be good for both the village and the environment.

Llannerchymedd Priorities
A dynamic feedback and prioritisation session in November 2025 focused on what matters most to the Llannerchymedd community. It included identifying pressing local issues, reviewing every project idea, suggesting who should lead each initiative and choosing their top five priorities.
Outcomes from a further event in March 2026 will be updated here soon.
