Energising Cwmllinau
Cwmllinau residents are beginning an exciting journey to tackle the energy issues that are important to them, as part of Energised Communities, a five-year programme funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.
Working together to energise Cwmllinau
Nestled in the beautiful UNESCO-designated Dyfi Biosphere, the small village of Cwmllinau has a long history of community cohesion.
During our seven-year Rural Futures programme, we worked closing with people in the village aiming to rejuvenate community facilities and increase local involvement. The group fund-raised to develop a new playpark and Rural Futures funding was concentrated on renovation of the village hall. The scale of renovation required match funding from Welsh Government’s Community Facilities Programme and Ecodyfi’s Windfall fund.
Through those residents’ energy and commitment, a new group is being created to meet further challenges facing the area. The age and type of of the housing stock in Cwmllinau mean that most of the properties in the village are hard to heat and hard to treat. Local people have asked for support to help reduce their running costs and develop low carbon solutions to heating their homes.
We are supporting the community to develop their ideas and put them into action, as part of the five-year Energised Communities programme which concludes in 2029.
What matters to you?
The first consultation events in August revealed information about projects, services and support that exists now.
Discussions ranged from transport and active travel to access to fresh food and growing spaces, to waste and resource sharing, and much in-between.
The conversations were lively and thought-provoking and everyone’s insightful views have been pulled together into an initial summary report about local issues and possible solutions that would be good for both the village and the environment.
Next steps will be discussed at a second event. Watch this space for more details.
