Energising Bro Machno
Bro Machno residents are beginning an exciting journey to tackle the energy issues that are important to them, as part of Energised Communities, a five-year programme funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.
Working together to energise Bro Machno
Set in the heart of Eryri, Bro Machno is surrounded by stunning landscapes and its communities have strong social ties. But living in the middle of a tourist haven brings its own challenges and threats to local culture and sustainability.
During our seven-year Rural Futures programme, the group used funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to revamp the old Memorial Hall and create Hwb Penmachno / Penmachno Community Hub, a modern focus for events and services for the wider Bro Machno community.
Through those residents’ energy and commitment, a new group is being created to meet further challenges facing the area.
Adrian Roberts, Severn Wye’s place coordinator, is supporting the community to develop their ideas and put them into action, as part of the five-year Energised Communities programme which concludes in 2029.
What matters to you?
The first consultation events in April/May revealed information about projects, services and support that exists now.
Discussions ranged from transport and active travel to access to fresh food and growing spaces, to waste and resource sharing, and much in-between.
The conversations were lively and thought-provoking and everyone’s insightful views have been pulled together into an initial summary report about local issues and possible solutions that would be good for both the village and the environment.
Possible next steps were discussed at a second event in July.

Bro Machno Priorities
The event in July was a dynamic feedback and prioritisation session, focused on what matters most to the Bro Machno community. It included identifying pressing local issues, reviewing every project idea, suggesting who should lead each initiative and choosing their top five priorities. This lead to a community-wide questionnaire to ensure every voice had a chance to be heard.
