Ceiriog Valley – a resilient & thriving future

Ceiriog Valley residents and businesses are invited to have their say on the energy, sustainability and climate issues that are important to them, as part of the Energised Communities project, a five-year programme funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.

Shaping the future of Ceiriog Valley

‘Ceiriog Valley – A Resilient, Sustainable & Thriving Future’ is an opportunity for local residents, community groups, businesses and others to have their voices heard, captured and acted upon.

It’s part of Energised Communities, a five-year programme funded by The National Lottery Community Fund looking at the issues, challenges and opportunities for rural communities. It’s a chance for local people to shape the future of the valley and surrounding areas.

With key themes around energy, sustainability and climate, Energised Communities has sub-themes including:

  • Community-owned energy
  • Food & growing
  • Community transport
  • Land & nature
  • Active travel
  • Community buildings.

Ceiriog Valley is a vibrant and welcoming place, defined by its strong sense of community. Like many rural areas, however, it faces its share of challenges, from housing, employment and transport to access to services, fuel and food poverty.

The local economy remains rooted in agriculture while also thriving across sectors such as manufacturing, construction, hospitality and tourism.

The next consultation event is TBC – details to follow soon.

What matters to you

The first public consultation event, held in Ceiriog Valley in early November 2025, provided valuable insight into the issues, challenges and concerns facing the community, as well as existing initiatives and future hopes relating to energy, sustainability and climate action.
The discussions demonstrated strong local awareness and a clear desire to develop practical, community-led solutions.

  • the high cost of energy
  • improving the energy efficiency of homes and community buildings
  • opportunities for new community renewable energy schemes
  • public transport and active travel
  • community food growing and reducing food waste
  • reuse, repair, sharing and recycling

The event also featured a wide range of speakers and exhibitors, including local community groups and regional public and private sector organisations. This created opportunities to share knowledge, showcase existing work and build new partnerships.

A central part of the consultation was a detailed questionnaire, combining structured questions with space for open responses. This captured extensive written feedback from attendees. All responses have been carefully collated and analysed, forming the basis of the Ceiriog Valley Community Consultation and Engagement Report.

Watch this space for more details about the next meeting to present and discuss the findings.
