Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards

Private landlords can only rent properties that hold an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of E or above.

If your rental falls below this, we can help you make affordable improvements to bring it up to Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES).

Landlords without a valid exemption are required by law to improve their F and G-rated properties to an E rating in order to let them. They must spend up to £3,500 to do this.

Severn Wye’s energy efficiency experts will help you achieve the E-rating in the most affordable way possible, and depending on the occupancy of the property you may be able to access grant funding to help with the cost of improvements.

Usually £200, our MEES service is available for a limited time for free to private landlords in Cotswold District and the Forest of Dean.
